Product Development

Product development is a complex process requiring customer feed back, costings, acquisition of appropriate raw materials, creativity and of course the development of new skills and techniques that ensure feasibility and quality.
Quality is the most important element of product development for Bijou Studio Online; consequently, once new product ideas have been developed, the final product is tested, adjusted and adapted, not only to ensure quality but also consumer safety.
Bijou Studio Online, understands that just because a product looks good, does not mean it will function as it should and will not damage furniture or harm the final consumer. This understanding fuels the undertaking of the testing process for each new product.
Here are a few examples of the new ceramics range that will become available shortly, using raw materials that are Eco-Friendly in order to minimise the foot print of Bijou Studio Online

THE MAGIC OF TIME:
Developing new products is not without risk, or significant expense; there have been many failures. Some product ideas were just too expensive to ensure affordability, despite their unique nature. Some product ideas were simply disgarded because they were not robust enough to ensure longevity. Some product ideas were abandoned [for the moment at least] because they simply did not work.
Of course developing new products is very time consuming and has restricted production of existing lines; normal service will be resummed shortly.
Once the ceramics range is in full production, Bijou Studio Online would be appreciative if you take the time to view them and offer feed back. Bijou Studio Online would also be appreciative if you purchase them, but, understands, different people have different colour preferrences and different functional needs. Your home is unique to you, so, if you like a specific product but in a different colour range, feel free to request a colour choice. Similarly, if you have specific requirements contact us, if we can work together in order to develop something you need, we will be very happy to do so.
In 2025 Bijou Studio Online introduced Jewellery to its product range; this has been reasonably successful, but not as successful as hoped. This does not mean jewellery will be removed from the range, but there is likely to be a greater focus on personalised orders, which has proved more successful.
For those unfamiliar with Bijou Studio Online, this is a very small business, located in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. There is of course a CEO, that is me, there is a Managing Director, that is me, there is an administrative officer, that is also me and the most important member of staff, the head cook and bottle washer, me again.
SO WHO IS ME?
I am Tish, former college lecturer, a Mother of one, and Grandmother of 10, with another due shortly, for my sins, I was initiated into grand parenting at a very young age. Of those 10 grand children, 4 and the soon to be 5th are great grand children and still I'm only 35, OK so I lied about my age
WHAT ABOUT THE FUTURE OF BIJOU STUDIO ONLINE?
Bijou Studio Online started small, which might be better defined as extremely small; just an idea and a hope that products would be what consumers like and want at a pricing structure that enables affordability rather than profiteering. The fundamental idea was to get away from Corporate homogenous products, thereby offering something that is a little bit different and will reflect individuality and offer a little more choice.
This Summer, Bijou Studio Online will be spreading its wings a little by booking stalls at craft fairs and Car Boot events. If you are in Sheffield or the surrounding area, I hope you will come and find me at one or more of these events. It will give you the opportunity to see the goods, in the flesh, so to speak. You might even get an opportunity to ask me anything about the products. I appreciate that customers away from the Sheffield area will not have this opportunity, but touring the country is a little ambitious at the moment; although it does sound like a nice idea.
As with all hand made products, anomalies occur; any such anomalies that inhibit the quality, function and aesthetics of the product result in that product either being totally disgarded or sold at a reduced price where appropriate.
As a general rule, hand made products tend to be of greater quality than mass produced products because profit is not the primary objective. That said, profit is an essential element of any business, small or otherwise. Without profit, new products can not be developed, new, better quality materials can not be explored, and replacement materials for continued production can not be purchased.
Raw materials are not the only costs incurred, energy costs, tools and equipment, storage, insurance, and skill development are also costs that need to be covered...... and that is before I start paying my normal bills. So yes, there is a profit element in the listed price of all products and, the listed price includes postage and package.
Thank you for your continued support for Bijou Studio Online
