A small collection of Jewellery was introduced for Christmas 2025, originally not intended to be introduced until later in 2026. However, numerous requests were received for jewellery, hence the reason the introduction was brought forward. It is very much appreciated that this small collection received a positive response.

The objective behind the Jewellery Collection

Jewellery is very personal and individualistic in nature and all too often very expensive. Most of us have items of jewellery in our own personal collections that have been a treasured gift, or a must have purchase. These items initially always being a first choice to wear and then sometimes, while still treasured, they fall out of favour, only to be re-discovered years later

Jewellery is no longer just about diamonds and gold or even a reflection of social status, as it once was. Jewellery has become an extension of our wardrobe and our individual nature. We now use jewellery to dress up or dress down an outfit relative to the occasion.

Handcrafted jewellery, has addressed this changing status, thereby increasing the available choice, accessibility, and reflecting the individualist nature of the wearer.

Increased choice, accessibility and individualism is part of the ethos of Bijou Studio Online, hence Jewellery was always going to be introduced. Choice, is about trying to move away from the homogenistic nature of large retailers; accessibility is not just about availability, but also cost.

Currently, the UK is experiencing a cost of living issue with almost all income brackets feeling the pressure. Therefore, Bijou Studio Online endeavours to produce items at competitive prices while maintaining quality and ensuring we can all enjoy something a little different.

The Christmas 2025 collection was created with consumer cost in mind, both for personal usage and also as gifts; deliberately simplistic, which helps to generate competitive pricing, but also increases versatility for the wearer. This collection is not just about finding something to compliment evening or party wear, but also everyday wear. If we look good, we feel good, and if we can wear jewellery accessories on a daily basis, the cost becomes justifiable

During 2026 new jewellery designs will become available, along with the already growing individual orders. In accordance with the ethos of Bijou Studio Online, prices will be competitive with quality always being at the forefront of any product supplied.

Everyday jewellery is increasingly popular and will always feature in any Bijou Studio collection. In addition, more specialised collections will become available. Materials purchased for production are scrutinised for quality, safety, durability, and minimising environmental footprint

• You talk about competitive priceing, so why are other similar items less expensive?

Defining 'expensive' is ambiguous and definitely relative. Raw materials used for any handcrafted item is the main factor in production costs. It doesn't always follow that cheaper raw materials indicate lower quality, but generally speaking this is true.

Not all suppliers of handcrafted products have the same overhead costs. Some suppliers only produce items as a hobby and sell their products to recover the cost of the raw materials. Generally speaking, such suppliers produce excellent work and Bijou Studio Online has taken inspiration from such producers. These suppliers should be supported and encouraged

Unfortunately, a small minority do not scrutinise their raw materials and do not necessarily apply a durable finish to those products. The consequence often being a product that is unable to stand the test of time and simply becomes quickly disposable. Thus, making the product expensive in relative terms. If you purchase a set of disposable cups rather than a set of ceramic cups because the paper cups were lower in price; even over a short period of say a month, which would be the most cost effective, the paper cups or the ceramic cups? The adage, 'I can't afford to buy cheap' is very true for all of us.

Producing handcrafted items for retail is no longer done at the kitchen table or while watching TV. In addition to some professional services a designated space, tools, equipment and storage are necessary. These essential items along with the time and skills needed for production are all cost factors that must to be taken into consideration and do form part of the final retail price.

Any business, large or small, commercial or specialised, needs to survive. The only way any business survives and grows is by covering its overhead and production costs, while at the same time investing in its future. These costs are always reflected in the final retail price. To do otherwise promotes failure, resulting in reduced consumer choice, less competitive pricing and monoply from large Corporations who do not address individual choice, but prioritise share holders rather than consumers.

2025 signifies the first full year of trading for Bijou Studio Online. It has not all been smooth sailing, but, it has been an enjoyable, educational and creative experience. Injuries have been sustained, failures of designs have been experienced and wept over. Funds have been lost because materials tried simply did not meet the required standard and yet, Bijou Studio Online, has survived.

New skills are constantly being invested in, new ideas are constantly being developed and sometimes discarded.
